BEAUTY FOUND AND LOST

It may be that some lives have uncovered pieces, some will have to pick up the pieces along the journey of life to look for the truth. Others, will have to discover their pieces to unlock the mysteries in their lives enabling them unravel their true potentials. But others have lives that are already shaped in ways in which we cannot predict or always understand. Through the eyes of human, some lives are formed in a perfect circle, beautiful, inescapable with traces of wonderful memories. Ebony was a free-spirited beautiful young lady who understood the real construction of life and never wasted a second of it but rather made an impact.
Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng popularly known as Ebony Reigns left her footprints in the sands of time, telling the upcoming generation that time waits for no man and if you have something in mind, overcome all the challenges and be firm in your decisions. Ebony was one in a million, from her genre of music to her personality, she was incredible. Indeed, Bullet discovered a bright star in the sky, who believed in her goals and aspirations in life. He just did not discover the present but the future. Eventhough, we all encounter different challenges in life, I believe Ebony had a share but that was not an obstacle, she turned it into an opportunity and that made her steel which defined her as the brightest and finest of them all.
I kept asking myself, how did she do it? From her style of writing songs and her sweet vocals dramatically changed the airwaves. Such an amazing artist, listening to most of her songs, you will feel like she is talking to you directly. Ebony was not just a dancehall artist but a storyteller, her songs were portraying the shades of life.
If you ask me what Ebony’s songs really meant to me? I would say most of her songs were reflections of life. “Hustle” was a true reflection of the struggles of market women trying to make a living at the end of the day. “Sponsor” was no exception…..that song made most Ghanaian guys wild, “a boyfriend who can’t buy food when you are hungry, Mtchewwww…….is that one too a boyfriend.”  Eeeeii Ebony…..really? and that was a true picture of most young women, they preferred to be sponsored by responsible old men because after the hustle and bustle of city life, they can’t afford to have a poor boyfriend.
So whilst Toni Braxton was singing “unbreak my heart” I am guessing Ebony saying… “This woman paa, are you pleading to be loved again.” Ebony decided to encourage the broken heart ladies with another alternative, “If you break my heart, I go date your father.” So this was to all heart breakers, if you don’t want your ex-girlfriend to be your step mother, you better think fast.
Leaving her footprints in the sands of time, she felt some sands in her shoes, it was like living someone else’s life. Literally, she felt the emotions of being abused and “Maame Hwe” was the perfect song for abused women in marriages.
The cheaters had their fair share of Ebony’s dancehall cake with her hit song “Kupe” This song was well composed and the great lesson behind it was for cheating spouse to stop their extra marital affair.
As days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, I am still baffled at the fact that Ebony is really gone. Just as the sunflower blooms and fades away, the beautiful lady with the golden voice is no more. If I am asked again about Ebony Reigns, my answer would be very simple, Baby Ebony Electrified (B.E.E) just as the bee provides sweet honey, Ebony sung beautifully and told amazing stories through her music about the tales of life.
If some lives are unpredictable in ways we cannot understand, the only thing we can be grateful for is the beautiful memories we share with a beautiful soul like Ebony. Loss will always be part of our journey but it has also shown us love for which we can only appreciate. A beauty was found but lost through the journey of life. You will forever be missed. Rest in Peace Nana Hemaa.
